More than 60% of the UK population have access to the internet in their home and this figure is constantly growing. As the internet is fast becoming a regular part of our everyday lives with most teenagers now spending more time online that watching TV it is more important for people to be able to find a business online. Many people will often search online for a company before making a purchase and if they cannot find a site for that company it can seriously affect their first impression of it and subsequently the likelihood of making a sale. Even a simple, single page containing a brief description of your company and contact details is better than nothing and if you already have listings on other sites such as yell.com these can be linked to your site and will help to make your business even easier to find online. Search engine optimisation is an essential service for businesses who want to be in pole position when their customer is on the look out for a product or service. We can even provide you with a Content Management System meaning you can update your own website as frequently as you want with no hassle. WHETHER you are interested in new technology or not, it’s hard to miss the recent adverts for mobile broadband services offered by mobile networks like Vodafone, T-Mobile and Three. The prospect certainly does sound good; just sign up to a monthly contract with one of the networks – and in return you’ll get a little USB ‘modem’ to plug into your laptop or PC – giving you broadband speed internet access wherever you are! It’s the latest and greatest must have for busy executives, mobile sales teams and Facebook addicts! So where’s the catch? Depending on where you are, you might be in for a bit of a shock. The service makes use of the mobile phone network – meaning that the speed you get depends on the level of service in your area. You might have heard of the term 3G before – it’s banded around a lot as if we all know what it means. What it does mean is a fast connection over a mobile network – giving us the ability to use the internet at broadband speed, download our e-mails in super quick time or make a video call from a 3G phone. If you’re in a good signal area, you should find the speed similar to a normal home or office broadband connection – 3G coverage in cities is fairly good on all networks now and offers up to about 8mbps in the best areas. The problem comes when you venture out into the countryside. 3G coverage in suburban and rural areas is patchy at best. Find yourself in a non-3g area and you’re not getting broadband at all! In an old fashioned 2g signal area, making calls on your mobile might not be a problem – but try your new broadband modem, and you’ll be connected at about the same speed as an old dial up connection. Venture further out into the wild where you don’t get a phone signal at all – and the service stops completely. Not much good at all if you’ve just signed up for a 12 or 18 month contract! Before you buy, we recommend you thoroughly check out the speed, coverage and pricing of each mobile network and compare them. Most mobile networks will let you check the coverage in the areas you intend to use it on their website. It’s really important to do your homework before you tie yourself in to a lengthy contract!
